sacred day two hundred seventy-five

a pot of goodness.
10.2.2011

returning home. chopping vegetables. solving problems. loving well.  living well. leaning into truth.  naming what isn't right.  honoring one's self.  seeking rest.  creating rest.  honoring the body.  creating sabbath.  delighting in each taste.  being present to this moment.  knowing yourself.  all add flavor to a pot of goodness.

sacred two hundred sixty-seven

bright light.
9.25.2011

you should never look directly into the sun.  i love the way the sun came into blurred view as i snapped a photo of what you shouldn't look into.  its good light fueled my spirits as i moved from place to place.  stepping into the light, feeling the light on my skin, looking near.  aah...

sacred day two hundred forty

hearts.
8.28.2011

cutting little felt hearts on the sabbath.  reflecting on what is good.  listening to wisdom.  learning from the moments of rest and stillness and creative rest.  present to what is before me.  listening to my heart.  a sacred moment on a day of sabbath.

sacred day two hundred thirty-three

sacred stitches.
8.21.2011

stitching is truly rest for my soul.  stitching is creative rest for me.  i love the space within myself that is fed as i use my hands to stitch.  i love black & white, using them so often in my own creations.  i love the contrast that is presented before me as i stitch along.  creating this feather brought me to stillness & rest during my time of sabbath rest.  each stitch brought creative rest. creative calm.

((this magic feather is one that i found along a blog that you might enjoy.  i didn't watch her tutorial until after i created mine. you may find a few parts helpful if you are a learning stitcher. i'll be sending this one along to jude this week.))

sacred day two hundred twenty

sacred souls.
8.8.2011

gathering with fellow clergy women, in a place filled with light and life.  breathing together. sharing together.  delighting in the spaces of quiet and spaces filled with a calming voice.  what a gift.  what a treasure.  sabbath space.  sacred space.  sacred souls.

sacred day two hundred nineteen

sabbath lunch.
8.7.2011

enjoying the tastes of summer, delighting in a meal with a kind friend and family.  creating space for rest.  creating space for loving  well and for receiving love.  savoring each bite. sharing each story.  a sacred meal. a sabbath lunch.

sacred day two hundred eighteen

rest.
8.6.2011

home is a space where i kick up my feet.  home is a place where i dance.  home is cozy, welcoming, warm.  home is where the heart is.  home is where i find and create rest.  home is a sacred space and we are thankful for this space we reside in together.  sitting still.  knowing.  finding my centering place. dreaming of my birthday gathering to come and who will surround me with love.  delighting in words exchanged with my soul friend.  letting go. receiving.

sacred day two hundred seventeen

saying goodbye.
6.5.2011

there are spaces for good beginnings and good endings.  there are also spaces for the farwells and soon to see you agains.  in this moment, we are departing a sacred space for our trio.  a delightful home away from home that provides rest & restoration.  we love the green of this space.  we love the welcome we receive while there.  we love that our country hearts have a place to be.  we find peace.

sacred day two hundred eleven

birthing from within.
7.30.2011

each piece of art that starts as a thought sometimes makes its way to a doodle.  some doodles end up carved as relief prints or land in paintings or ink drawings.  this is one of my favorite newer doodles.  i love her movement, her birthing taking shape.  i've enjoyed returning to her this day, celebrating what is taking shape.  i've surrounded her with the purple of childhood, a favorite color above all colors.  it's funny that my favorite colors of adulthood are the colors that create purple.  i'm allowing myself to be loved and to share the love within through the work of my hands.

sacred day two hundred five

morning play.
7.24.2011

object lessons can sometimes really connect.  my love presented a lesson in objects & words to our gathered group on this morning. the story telling and reflections were sacred.  it was a conversation that led to knowing myself and others a little more fully.  what a gift.  what a gift.  and we played with blocks.

sacred day one hundred ninety-eight

light.
7.17.2011

each time i looked to the sky, i thought to myself, "the sky is beautiful!" and there was a jump of glee within my chest.  the world can bring such delight when we open ourselves to its beauty.  the sky brought a glimpse of the sacred again and again.

sacred day one hundred eighty-seven

porch swinging.
7.6.2011

swinging my boy to sleep at my brother's house was a sacred moment.  surrounded by the evening air, sounds of the cricket and cicada symphony, & the sound of the swing. my boy curled up in this blanket that was mine  33+ years ago.  delight.  memory.  love.  life.

sacred day one hundred seventy-seven

super letters.
6.26.2011

a day of sabbath. rest and play. learning and story telling.  my sweet boy uses the newly acquired typewriter. a moment of quiet and stillness.  a moment of clicking sounds.  a day of togetherness which brings complete joy.

sacred day one hundred seventy-one

worshipping outdoors.
6.19.2011

of all the spaces to worship, outdoors is my favorite.  sitting among others on bricks facing the church's  portico, we worshiped.  we listened to the sounds of nature (and passing travelers), felt the sun's rays on our skin, and embraced the gentle breeze.  it's a sacred space, this sanctuary.

sacred day one hundred seventy

an empty glass.
6.18.2011

the tonic with lime was empty.  drinks were consumed.  sushi was eaten.  stories were told.  names known.  laughter shared.  in the sacred space of a ladies' night out, we found delight.

sacred day one hundred sixty-seven

sacred space.
6.15.2011

watching & listening.  my brother in law plays the banjo at the annual church variety show.  it's a generous act, these who share their time and talents with the community.  we laugh, clap, tear up, and speak with each other.  it's a sacred space, a safe space in which to share.

sacred day one hundred sixty-five

flowers found.
6.13.2011

at the end of a trail run, these flowers were waiting.  their presence was a glimpse of the sacred in its typial way: unexpected, found in mindfulness of the present moment.  i am thankful for such moments, such flowers, and these glimpses of the sacred in every day living.  loving life.  living well.  witnessing.

sacred day one hundred sixty-one

garden feet.
6.9.2011

working in the sacred space of the dirt.  the soil is where i plant my feet. i become rooted to this space and i grow.  there's so much goodness in this space, where ever that is.  i choose to look around and see the goodness in the world around me.  even where there is suffering, there is love.  there is grace. there is goodness.  the sacred is in the space beneath our feet and the space that surrounds us.

sacred day one hundred fifty-seven

frances' blessing.
6.5.2011

i love the statue, the humor, and the space it occupies.  this statue stands outside of a very sacred space: a porch on which many a sip and visit has occurred.  while my own visiting is limited to a few, you know it's a space that hospitality is offered.  your cup is never empty.  conversation flows.  it's a sacred place with a delightful host.  i thoroughly enjoyed spending part of our sabbath here.

sacred day one hundred forty-three

colors of my day.
5.22.2011

sabbath rest comes and goes each week.  each week i move in ways in which i notice things.  i love the colors of each day.  in this moment, taking notice of fresh limes, a favorite turquoise bowl, and my red toaster.  love these glimpses of goodness.  glimpses of delight.  glimpses that bring the sacred to life within me as i rest.  savor.  delight.
