10.12.2011

seeing her bright smile on display in Main Hospital at VCU Medical Center is a gift.  she radiates beauty and life.  her smile is bright and her stories are delightful.  she's meesha and four now.  she loves glitter and ponies and she is amazing.  she is a sacred soul.

sacred day two hundred forty-four

beginnings.
9.1.2011

walking into my sweet boy's new school, there was so much energy and life.  these are sacred moments for parents and children alike.  my love and i grabbed hands after dropping our boy at his class with his new teacher.  as with our life journey together, we hold hands walking into the orientation.  we are in this together.  for that, i am abundantly thankful.

sacred day two hundred forty-one

savoring.
8.29.2011

savoring a tasty drink among good women at the tail end of a gathering. recognizing the lightness in the air.  naming the moment as a good one, in which my voice is shared and i listen well to stories told.  we dream a little togeher, sharing stories of writing and laughter.  breathing together in a shared space.  thankful and whole.  looking into this sacred circle and sipping.  sipping life a little at a time.

sacred day two hundred thirty-eight

picking figs.
8.26.2011

picking figs is a delight! picking figs at the home of church friends brought back memories of picking figs over the years at my grandmother's homeplace.  fig picking in this day was a sacred act, connecting hospitality, memory, the earth, the promise of sustinence.  oh, what a gift.  what a gift.

sacred day two hundred thirty-five

park play.
8.23.2011

enjoying the cool day, the fresh wind, the goodness of nature and laughter and friendship.  enjoying the moments stepping together, being present to others, being open to receiving. stepping into this moment with full awareness. watching the wonder & the life of it all.

sacred day two hundred thirty-one

soul music.
8.19.2011

my loves and i sat on a blanket and listened to the sacred sounds of gillian welch & david rawlings.  i love that the image distorts the lighting.  ((they almost look like they're living in a mushroom.))  sitting next to new friends & enjoying the sights, sounds, and tastes that filled the evening.  i loved watching the lightning in the distance as these two sang and swayed.  there was even a bit of dancing.  such a wonderful summer evening with the winds blowing so gently.  there was something magical in the air.  it was so delightful.

sacred day two hundred twenty-two

a night out.
8.10.2011

i love going out with the ladies.  we gathered ourselves and set off to carborro, n.c. just outside chapel hill.  we feasted on laughter & stories. the laughter that came under these lights delighted me.  i became more restored & refreshed after a great deal of good life processing.  good, soul work.  good, soul food through laughter & light.

8.7.2011

enjoying the tastes of summer, delighting in a meal with a kind friend and family.  creating space for rest.  creating space for loving  well and for receiving love.  savoring each bite. sharing each story.  a sacred meal. a sabbath lunch.

sacred day two hundred five

morning play.
7.24.2011

object lessons can sometimes really connect.  my love presented a lesson in objects & words to our gathered group on this morning. the story telling and reflections were sacred.  it was a conversation that led to knowing myself and others a little more fully.  what a gift.  what a gift.  and we played with blocks.

sacred day one hundred ninety-seven

trees.
7.16.2011

awakening under a canopy of trees along the blue ridge was a gift on this morning.  here you see a simple tree along a field.  the time we take to camp, to retreat to nature, is a gift.  we know that the luxury of the time & means of taking an evening away, putting up the tent, cooking over a fire is a gift that not all enjoy.  i certainly hope that those who are able can look up to the sky and see the beauty that it holds. that each can see trees in their spiritual state.  that we can look around and see the wonder and amaement of creation.  such a glorious, mysterious world!

sacred day one hundred ninety-six

a remembering space.
7.15.2011

when someone we love dies it is so, so sad.  so terribly sad.  we love deeply and feel the loss of their physical presence deeply.  when my grandmother died years ago, i remember treasuring the facial expressions of those around me.  i was traveling in kenya and i wasn't going to be able to attend her funeral.  so i put a flower in my hair and i danced.  i danced, creating memories in a place that knows of life and death.  i danced and remembered.  this jar was made for memories.  memories that could be held for a moment or a lifetime.  a place for sacred stories in this shared love we have for those who care for us.  this jar is for a friend whose grandmother just died.  i know of such sadness. may she receive comfort and be surrounded by love.

sacred day one hundred ninety-five

meeting spaces.
7.14.2011

the spaces where life, ministry, and art intersect are sacred meeting places.  caring for myself in mind, body, and spirit is a holy task that enables me to meet my soul mate, my kindred spirits, my creative women with my centered self.  on this day, time was spent among others in ways that cared for my soul. in each of these spaces, i met them with my centered self and in meeting in these spaces, i felt the presence of the Holy Other.  i am whole.

sacred day one hundred ninety-three

a meal.
7.12.2011

i love having a leisurely meal with my love.  we've given ourselves this night out together, savoring each taste. enjoying each word.  he's the love of my life, my one and only true love. the love between us is sacred.

sacred day one hundred eighty-eight

a shared meal.
7.7.2011

i have spent many meals over the years with kindred spirits.  the meal where this dessert was eaten was a sacred space among sacred souls.  these kindred spirits encourage me. my heart is full as we embrace, share stories, are fully present to one another, and share good, good food.

sacred day one hundred seventy-five

blooming friendships.
6.23.2011

visiting a friend, seeing her blooms ((the many, many blooms in her garden)) i am in awe.  she's one of my favorite gardeners, favorite artists, favorite people to be around.  i treasure our days and moments together and am truly thankful.  thankful for the sacred spaces of colorful homes, blooming gardens, and blooming relationships.  i see the sacred within her.  she is beautiful as she blooms.
6.23.2011

sacred day one hundred seventy-four

hello, bloom.
6.22.2011

i can't help but be reminded of the sacred feminine when glancing upon these flowers.  i kept calling them the vulva bloom... and i may only think such from now on.  a gentle reminder of the beauty of the sacred feminine in so much of nature.  thank you, mother earth.

sacred day one hundred seventy-three

sacred stitches.
6.21.2011

working with two kindred spirits in the studio, we sipped & stitched as we shared stories.  this is a sacred act given in love.  it's kindness.  it's goodness.  sacred stitches.

sacred day one hundred seventy-two

this moment.
6.20.2011

working among creative clergy, praying, telling stories, listening.  this moment is sacred.  this moment is felt and lived and loved.  this moment moves into my being and creates me as i create.  i'm being created, fashioned, loved, heard, welcomed.  sacred space.

sacred day one hundred seventy-one

worshipping outdoors.
6.19.2011

of all the spaces to worship, outdoors is my favorite.  sitting among others on bricks facing the church's  portico, we worshiped.  we listened to the sounds of nature (and passing travelers), felt the sun's rays on our skin, and embraced the gentle breeze.  it's a sacred space, this sanctuary.

sacred day one hundred seventy

an empty glass.
6.18.2011

the tonic with lime was empty.  drinks were consumed.  sushi was eaten.  stories were told.  names known.  laughter shared.  in the sacred space of a ladies' night out, we found delight.
