sacred day two hundred seventy-nine

yoga toes.
10.6.2011

standing in this spot.  rooted after a glorious hour and a half of yoga with a guide.  practicing.  seeing what's before me.  rooted.

sacred day two hundred seventy-two

baby hands.
9.29.2011

holding this sweet boy is a delight and a gift.  his mama is working beside us getting her art+craft pacakged for a big weekend show.  she's a dear, kind spirit who delights in his company.  she shares the gift of this sweet one with me as i hold him.  he snuggles close and snoozes most of the day.  sacred. sacred. sacred.

sacred day two-hundred sixty-five

brick wall.
9.23.2011

there's a beauty in this wall.  the color. the texture. the way the paint is peeling away.  today's reflections moved me into a space that allowed time to look at the walls around me.  walls that keep me safe. walls that provide warmth & rest.  walls that are good and necessary.  sacred spaces for reflection.

sacred day two hundred sixty-three

sitting by the glow.
9.21.2011

sitting by the candle. sending light and peace into the world. praying for those who live, those who die, and those who are left to love and grieve.

sacred day two hundred fifty-eight

new layers.
9.15.2011

there is something special about getting a haircut.  yes, it's for the moment of rest and relaxation that it brings.  it's special for the pure joy of someone playing with your hair.  it's also a space to look at yourself, really look in the mirror and see.  to look into your reflexion and take a good breath and know that you are you.  wholly, holy, sacred you.

sacred day two hundred forty

hearts.
8.28.2011

cutting little felt hearts on the sabbath.  reflecting on what is good.  listening to wisdom.  learning from the moments of rest and stillness and creative rest.  present to what is before me.  listening to my heart.  a sacred moment on a day of sabbath.

sacred day two hundred thirty-four

sacred circles.
8.22.2011

my hands are moving into the moments of creating sacred circles one circle at a time.  these become a sacred act as i reflect on life, center on the moment, and move into spaces of listening to wisdom.  i want to be present to the wisdom within and the wisdom that surrounds me.  i become lost in the circles as the color stories develop and bring life and light to the moment.  i am surrounded by the sacred, opening my eyes to glimpses in each day.  glimpses in each moment.

sacred day two hundred twenty

sacred souls.
8.8.2011

gathering with fellow clergy women, in a place filled with light and life.  breathing together. sharing together.  delighting in the spaces of quiet and spaces filled with a calming voice.  what a gift.  what a treasure.  sabbath space.  sacred space.  sacred souls.

sacred day one hundred seventy-six

feathers.
6.24.2011

i love birds. i love bird nests. i love feathers.  sitting still creating feathers, i'm given a space for creative rest.  my hands and mind and spirit are connected into a centered space of peaceful wholenss.  i'm leaning into my creative self, embracing each aspect of the moment through simplicity.  sacred delight!

sacred day one hundred fifty-one

her water hole.
5.30.2011

this dear cricket could do what my body wanted, to crawl into this cool water and be.  this water has become a sacred spot for resting after trail blazing.  it's a spot that this one enjoys just so.  it's a spot that brings my mind + spirit into awareness of the well within.  i tap into that well, that resource, finding the cooling waters within.

sacred day one hundred forty-three

colors of my day.
5.22.2011

sabbath rest comes and goes each week.  each week i move in ways in which i notice things.  i love the colors of each day.  in this moment, taking notice of fresh limes, a favorite turquoise bowl, and my red toaster.  love these glimpses of goodness.  glimpses of delight.  glimpses that bring the sacred to life within me as i rest.  savor.  delight.

sacred day one hundred forty

the glow.
5.20.2011

the studio space is sacred space.  resting in the glow of the studio on this evening brought a comfort.  there was a presence of peace and restoration that was needed.  i appreciated the glow of the space, but felt the sacred in my midst.

sacred day ninety-five

a quiet moment.
4.4.2011

whether bowing in awe, in prayer, with allergies, or to rest... i'm not sure what my sweet boy intended in this gesture.  after walking on an adventure through woods on a trail and ending up at the lake, he found this stone gazebo and took this pose for a few moments.  i believe he, too, is a contemplative at heart.  i believe that he stops to take in the goodness and beauty that surrounds him.  i believe that he must return to his center, allowing the silence to speak.

sacred day eighty-four

sun streaming through the clouds.
3.24.2011

there are messages that we can create from nature.  as i was driving to facilitate the 5th week of a 7 week Bereavement Group, i saw the light streaming bright through gray and white clouds.  grief is a lot like this, with breaks in the grieving process.  there are glimpses of peace, of life, of love, of lift, of the sacred peering through. there are the mixed emotions and feelings that lean into the present moment, whatever the present moment.  there are mixtures that come together that send us messages that say: we are not alone.

sacred day seventy-two

creating space.
3.12.2011

oh, giving birth to an idea takes so much time and energy.  creating a space for life to emerge is a sacred task.  the life that i created wtih another is in its third year and we are so proud. now there are many hands bringing it to life again and again.  i am so, so glad. sometimes a little nervous and excited, just like the expectant mother.  i love this event. if you're in the richmond, va area: my message to you is that you simply. must. be. there.  there is room for you at the table.  come

sacred day thirty-five

storytelling.
2.4.2011

while not a sacred story from a sacred text, this book is a favorite over decades. my son called for reading the night before christmas. i listened to his request and we read without a pause. he delighted in the reading and we snuggled close. his delight called my attention to the presence of the Divine among us.

sacred day twenty-nine

warmth + love.
1.29.2011

finding myself wrapped well into the blanket hand stitched by my great grandmother. i love the bright polyester squares with the white thread to allow it to burst with color. it's a sacred space, wrapped in this blanket while rocking in my chair. the very rocking chair that i rocked in as a baby is the chair i rest well in.

sacred day twenty-four

her hands.
1.24.2011

my grandmother made this quilt for me the year of my birth. she stitched each of these parts by hand. it rests upon me now and i am continually warmed by her presence, her spirit. memories are held tight just as each fiber is held together through these stitches. i love the work of her hands.

sacred day twenty-three

color.
1.23.2011

whether dancing through the day or nesting through a bit of the flu, color speaks to my soul. seeing the lovely shade of my lamp delights my senses. perhaps i am a bit trippy from my medicines and fever, perhaps just honest. i love color and the delight it brings.

sacred day eleven

rising dough.
1.11.2011

in what ever form, bread making is a sacred act. when you look at the simple ingredients (or more complex) that you combine in a bowl (or vessel) that create sustenance, it is awe inspiring. each part makes the whole. making this dough for cinnamon rolls, a recipe shared by one of my husband's cousins, was a making of joy. my hands have missed the act of kneading since our daily bread calls for simplicity. this dough brought moments of relaxation and centering through the work of my hands.
