sacred day two hundred fifty-six

porch wisdom.
9.13.2011

Kindness Girl has a lot of heart.  she creates a great space for her kiddos, neigbors, and the world.  i am happy to receive her kindness and her voice.  she calls my work "soul work" and that is a gift to my soul.  i receive her words and allow the power of her voice to move through me.  she is a gift.  her voice, her words, her rocking chairs.  powerful.  sacred.

sacred day two hundred forty-six

familiar sights.
9.3.2011

meeting printmakers from nashville was tremendous.  witnessing their creative hands, watching them add ink to the press as they were printing.  oh, my.  i met kindred spirits who shared their work, shared stories, and shared excitement.  what a joy to meet so many creative souls.

sacred day two hundred twenty-four

seeing what is before me.
8.12.2011

looking at a few of the items on the table before me on my first day home after a tremendously good-for-the-soul trip, i couldn't help but see beauty.  noticing beauty is one of my favorite hobbies, along with the practice of mindfulness & self awareness.  so many good spaces to occupy in this world.  seeking beauty always leads me to noticing the sacred in our daily lives.  it's in the dust, the dirt, in colors that i glimpse the sacred freely.  my eyes are open.

sacred day two hundred twenty-one

sacred circles.
8.9.2011

gathered in a room filled with my sisters, i was given the gift of sharing space, creativity, & rest.  i led the group gathered in guided imagery inspiring us to center, to reflect, and to rest.  we listened to each other's breathing and in doing so listened to our hearts.  each engaged at a comfortable pace and shared stories.  what an experience of togetherness with the creative spirit among us.  what a gift to rest through creativity.

sacred day two hundred three

peace. peace. peace.
7.22.2011

prayers for peace, created using water, color, & circles.  what a joyous, life giving prayer.  the sacred is present, listening.  this prayer for peace along with all the others created will send reverbations into the world.  what a gift.  what a gift, indeed.

sacred day one hundred sixty-nine

rainbow color.
6.17.2011

witnessing a banquet of color in celebration of K's 7 years on this good earth.  each one in attendance created for themselves and others.  having father's day this weekend, many were inspired to share love with their daddy-o's.  these young girls really express themselves well, sharing their friendship and their creativity in this sacred space. they've blessed the space and one another through their presence & sharing.

sacred day one hundred sixty

art. bright & bold.
6.8.2011

i love, love this instillation of art that's at the bottom of our hill.  it's been here for years and the good folks at art180 have a program for the youth that has them patinting it again and again (as i understand the story).  i love when it returns up, bright and bold.  the colors, the symbols, and the object itself speak to our souls.  it's good to have this art in our neighborhood.

sacred day one hundred thirty-four

a mother's day.
5.14.2011

i love my mother's day every day.  i long for others who are called to share the joy of motherhood.  some are called to mother my boy and others, and for them i give thanks.  i love mothers who share their wisdom in quiet ways, and who receive my mothering ways with welcome.  these red sandals were my mother's day gift a week ago, arriving after the day.  my dear, sweet boy takes note of my hot pink toes in these red sandals and i wonder how long before he requests his own.  ah, these moments filled with favorite colors and favorite toes.  i love my dear one and all he teaches me, each and every day.  the sacred spaces of motherhood, witnessing his journey, fill me all the way to my toes and then some.

sacred day one hundred twenty-two

painting toes.
5.1.2011

on this may day, i celebrated with worship, a great day watching soccer, a lot of stitching, a walk in the garden (thus, a little dirt on my feet), and freshly painted toes.  sometimes your sabbath needs this sort of creative rest.  i love seeing color on these long nails on long toes, passed down through genetics.  i love the connection of a sacred day of rest with one of my favorite souls almost two years ago at a sacred spot, where i choose this (more natural) polish option.  a breath of fresh air and sacred stillness.

sacred day one hundred thirteen

painted eggs.
4.22.2011

oh, to decorate eggs the way of my childhood.  the smells of vinegar and the pack of PAAS.  we'll dye the eggs naturally, too, but for today, in this moment, a sacred connection between my child spirit and his.  a moment of sheer delight and magic.  witnessing the colors change, creating color stories and uncontrolled blends of color.  such delight for my child spirit.

sacred day one hundred eight

sweet hands.
4.17.2011

greeted by my sweet boy with the request of time together, we painted nails in sparkly tones.  stretched on the floor is fabric for a current quilting project.  a mother's heart is full.

sacred day one hundred one

sacred spaces.
4.10.2011

to receive the gift of creating something in one of life's marking moments is a sacred act.  i am honored to have the invitation to further engage in the creation of landscapes for a fellow minister.  using this image created by a friend of hers, i was inspired to create the piece you see on the left.  so, so fitting following my other landscape series.  i love this piece.  i love the story, and i love the sacred space created here.

sacred day ninety-two

story circles.
4.1.2011

working with preschool hands, we told and drew stories about who we are.  each circle printed on fabric tells a story.  each is dear and i am fortunate to have witnessed stories in the space created to share the stories.  story telling is a sacred art, among all ages.

sacred day eighty-nine

creating.
3.29.2011

for the spaces to create i am thankful.  each space holds the sacred and calls my spirit into the fullness of living creatively.  my toes hold the color of lent, my hands work with threads and color to create something sacred.  each day, each moment holds so many glimpses of goodness, kindness, and presence of the sacred.  i open my eyes to see and ears to hear.  i open my hands to welcome and to greet these glimpses.

sacred day eighty

beauty.
3.20.2011

i see beauty in the spaces she creates.  i see a sacred story and an uninhibited telling.  her hands take care in how she creates.  it what seems like a second, she's made a work of beauty.  i believe that she can see how beautiful the work of her hands is. i truly hope so.  i see it in the sacred telling of this story.

day three hundred thirty-eight

glitter hands.
12.4.2010

opening the studio to the public was a gifted experience. friends known and new came into the space, received the energy present within and named what they found: peace, relaxation, inspiration, gifts, happiness, delight. then there were hands like these, who engaged in creative play, sharing so much by sitting and creating. what an experience in the space, filled with one creative act after another.

day three hundred thirty-four

printing.
11.30.2010

oh, the colors of these women in a row, hung to dry, but abandoned. each will go to a happy home, a creative space where these can be what they were created to be: inspiration. reminders. a little creative nudge to pick up and paint, to sing, to dance. to use the creative voice that is given.

day three hundred twenty-seven

simple beauty.
11.23.2010

i love visiting my love's school for many reasons. leaving the thanksgiving feast by way of my favorite stairwell, i took delight in the original architecture left as is. i looked upon the layers, colors, and textures with appreciation. i think this in itself might serve as inspiration for a new series to come. there are so many creative spaces in the world. for this simple beauty and the foresight to leave it be, i am thankful.

day three hundred twenty-six

golden hues.
11.22.2010

moving through the afternoon with my super boy (he's grown into quite the assistant), i was stopped in my tracks by the glow of the sun streaming through this tree. of course you cannot help but walk into the space of this light, surrounded by golden beams diffused by the color of the leaves, created by the leaves. shining to the leaves below. what a gift. what presence of color and beauty in this moment.

day two hundred eighty-five

circles, circles.
10.12.2010

i love finding children's art. when visiting a local church for advent art planning, i was filled with joy to see their connection through art to neighboring schools. lining the halls were children's art. what delight. each was created expressing color and life. this piece spoke to me. of course. creativity shared.
