day forty-nine

writing in process for a sermon.
2.18.2010

while i talk a little more off-hand about preaching, i'm excited to be in the midst of sermon writing. i do this far less than ever these days, but find other ways to dialogue with the scripture text & life cycle of the church. i am filled with words of others from the last week, and find it a little more difficult to center my focus & listen to my own voice. there's a parallel to the text that i'm dialoguing with: luke 4 with the temptation of jesus. i find that there are many temptations in daily rhythms. these are temptations that carry you away-from the center of your being and into some other space. the creative flow is present, though a bit rusty. i admit it's not the right moment for the sermon to come, but it will happen soon. i'd like the schedule to reflect tomorrow morning: write sermon in full. may it be so. until then, you see one of the creative acts from today: writing. with a pen. a favorite pen, in fact, though this isn't the best paper to receive ink from this pen. oh, i love writing. (i've lots of ideas of some art featuring my handwriting...but that's for another day. another act.) hand written letters are among some of my favorite things to give and receive! (do you sense an impending practice during lent? check the other blog for more)
