8.18.2010of all the meals i prepare, this has been one of my favorite for over 20+ years. i'm not sure when i first tasted this dish, but i'm certain i loved it from the first bite. of course, it was first prepared by my great uncle's hands. he and i shared a birthday and a taste for his good, soul stirring gumbo. i love the memories of him pulling crab from the bay and adding them to the pot. those blue crab were something to remember for certain. as i prepared this dish on this occasion i remembered him fondly, thought of those blue crab stirring in the bucket on the back porch (at least 15-20 years ago), and held onto grief over what's happening in the gulf. who knows when those blue crab will be in buckets on the back porch or in the waters of the gulf and safe?
