sacred day two hundred ninety-eight.

where i stand.
10.22.2011

standing here.  on mulch & pinestraw. breathing deeply. ready to help.  ready to serve.  ((at the country living fair in atlanta, ga.))

sacred day two hundred eighty-five.

life.
10.12.2011

seeing her bright smile on display in Main Hospital at VCU Medical Center is a gift.  she radiates beauty and life.  her smile is bright and her stories are delightful.  she's meesha and four now.  she loves glitter and ponies and she is amazing.  she is a sacred soul.

sacred day two hundred seventy-six

two hearts.
10.3.2011

i brought my boy some new headbands from the studio and he took them and made two hearts.  he curled up in a loving shape and grinned so sweetly.  he was proud.  he was showing me love and said so.  one for me. one for him.  *tears*

sacred day two hundred seventy-one

tree climber.
9.28.2011

i love that he runs toward trees.  he stands under them, looking up.  he notices the shapes of the leaves and asks their name.  he grabs hold of their limbs outstretched to the sun, lifting his feet from the ground and allowing the tree to hold his weight.  sometimes he steps into their limbs and finds himself in another world.  he's happy.  he's at home.

sacred day two hundred seventy

sacred circles.
9.27.2011

letters. shapes. symbols.  each of these represent something special to the one who created this sacred circle.  this act of meditation, creativity, naming, listening, and learning is a sacred act.  i am honored to witness the sacred flow of this creative statement.

sacred day two hundred sixty-four

mom, come and see!
9.22.2011

my son's excitement over nature is overwhelming at times.  running into the house he was so excited to find a quiet cricket along our front walk.  perhaps this cricket was approaching the end of life. i'm not sure.  he delighted in its company. i delighted in witnessing his joy.

sacred day two hundred sixty-three

sitting by the glow.
9.21.2011

sitting by the candle. sending light and peace into the world. praying for those who live, those who die, and those who are left to love and grieve.

sacred day two hundred sixty-two

open house.
9.20.2011

open house means getting to sit in the chair where my boy's been sitting during school.  open house means seeing some images of what he's been doing while in school.  open house means getting glimpses of the life he's leading in the spaces of his day. moments i can only glimpse and can only witness in this way.  soon i'll be in the classroom volunteering. yet there's a sacred process of knowing when to let go, when to release.  there's a sacred process in witnessing and holding on as well.

sacred day two hundred fifty-five

a celebration of women.
9.12.2011

gathering women in the studio, surrounded by light.  encircled by the presence of those gathered & those whose lives impact our own.  we lit candles & tied colorful strings to a giant wire wreath base given by a kind, caring friend.  these lights represented a small number of women we celebrate.  the time together was a gift.  a wish that was granted.  a sacred time among sacred souls.

sacred day two hundred forty-seven

lion dance.
9.4.2011

witnessing youth dance as lions.  seeing the tamer tame.  watching and observing.  listening.  aware of all that is taking place as the rain gently falls.  watching my boy as he witnesses their craft.  we are so blessed to witness such color, such sound, such beauty that surrounds us.

sacred day two hundred forty-five

adventure.
9.2.2011

excitement and a little nervousness welling up from within.  witnessing the afternoon light from a window on a plane that's carrying us to places familiar.  excited for the adventure that awaits.  trusting. listening. being.  welcoming the sacred on this adventure with us.  life's a grand adventure with this little lad.

sacred day two hundred forty-three

praying mants.
8.31.2011

holy smokes! this praying mantis came crawling from beneath the leaves of my hosta as i was weeding a few vines.  it was so long and came unexpectedly.  once atop the leaf, it watched me so closely.  we were only a couple of feet apart.  we stood and looked at each other for a few moments, then i had to capture the moment.  seeing. witnessing. standing in awe.

sacred day two hundred thirty-six

a bit of coral reef.
8.24.2011

spending the day with my boys at the national zoo and in D.C. was a delight.  seeing the bits of coral reef was rather amazing.  i am so inspired by the colors & textures. so inspired by the wonders of this world.  i have no experience with the underwater wonders aside from seeing them in this way.  such a gift.

sacred day two hundred twenty-nine

sacred flames.
8.17.2011

my women are called to mind at various points.  sometimes i simply think about them, other times i reach out to them, telling them i love them.  today i hurt for a friend who loved a young man that was killed in an automobile crash.  such saddness.  he was her family.  he was a bright light in the world and there is something missing.  he's left his mark as those who love carry him within them.  i didn't know this teenager.  i know the love others carry for him.  i carry one of those in love.  so i light a candle.  a sacred flame recognizing far better than i can in words what change has happened.  a flame that represents love, life, and loss.  peace. peace. peace.

sacred day two hundred twenty-seven

story stick.
8.15.2011

along a walk with a dear friend i picked up this stick.  her dog immediately wanted it, but i wanted it, too.  i wanted to capture its beauty and texture.  i love sticks.  truly.  there is something so special about sticks.  i've been painting on them lately, tending to notice them more and more.  i know my spirituality is connected to trees.  i'm not sure of the connection being drawn to sticks in this way, but i know it's there and i'm becoming attunded to the connection itself.  there's something sacred in the beauty of what my hands hold.

sacred day two hundred twenty-five

a space to write.
8.13.2011

this is a journal for sacred writing.  for writing as a spiritual act.  for allowing the creative spirit to come into me and flow through me.  this is a space to remind me that my words have value and meaning.  this hand created book filled with many colors & repurposed pages will also remind me how our words can hurt and our words can heal.  this is a space to breathe deeply these truths and recognize what our words can do in the bigger world.

sacred day two hundred twenty-three

a mighty fine cafe au lait.
8.11.2011

one of my favorite drinks.  i sip from this cup of cuban style cafe au lait and find myself warmed through and through.  the sacred comes and sits with us at the table.  sometimes the sacred is present through others seated with us.  sometimes the sacred is the food itself.  here the sacred is in this space and in the space of this cup.  the sacred is present to me in each sip.  pure delight.

sacred day two hundred sixteen

lighting up the sky.
8.4.2011

during the early morning hours thunder rolled and lightening striked.  for hours.  it was an amazing storm.  one that you want to be tucked away in a safe place.  the storm forced down limbs, trees, and caused the electricity to go off.  all you could hear was thunder and the cackling of the air as lighting pierced the darkness.  again and again.  flash after flash.

sacred day two hundred thirteen

i made a heart for you.
8.1.2011

my sweet boy creates using cords.  i love that he created a heart and then offered it to me as a gift.  each day he holds my heart.  even before i knew him, my heart was his.  i love, love, love my sweet, thoughtful, creative, wonder-filled boy.  he's so imaginative & inquisitive.  i'm delighted in how much joy he takes in playing.  his graciousness traveling and spending time with grandparents and great! grandparents.

sacred day two hundred ten

an evening ride.
7.29.2011

my sweet boy and his great grandfather are near the chicken coop after gran D has gathered eggs.  jo jumps on the ATV and asks for an evening ride.  of course, of course.  five year olds get to move into the wild adventures of night time riding, seeing the world through those eyes of wonder.  life's an adventure in each moment, meant to be shared.  this moment is witnessed as i watched the headlights dart around the pasture, like lightning bugs flashing in the dark.  what a sacred moment.  i stood and watched, honoring my very full mothering heart.
