sacred day two hundred sixty-nine

tree of life.
9.26.2011

making the second tree of life canvas for a dear family, this tree of life celebrates a family of four.  love grows here.  truth telling.  truth sharing.  a canvas to hang in the sacred space of a bright life's room.  may all be blessed.

sacred day two hundred sixty

fishing.
9.17.2011

spending an evening fishing with friends is a good thing.  we love this spot that's a gift for us a couple times a year.  a church member offers his space for fishing & camping.  we love, love, love to go and share this good time worshipping the spaces of the outdoors!  creation is sacred.  settling into our breathing, stopping to watch the fire dance, and listening to all that is alive in the world that surrounds us: such goodness!

sacred day two hundred fifty-seven

well preserved.
9.14.2011

chopping and canning these pears was a sacred act.  my boy was in bed, getting rest.  i was in the kitchen listening to the rhythm of the knife as each pear was chopped into small, coarse pieces for the dutch oven.  again and again, my ancestors show up and are present.  they were with me in this kitchen.

sacred day two hundred fifty-six

porch wisdom.
9.13.2011

Kindness Girl has a lot of heart.  she creates a great space for her kiddos, neigbors, and the world.  i am happy to receive her kindness and her voice.  she calls my work "soul work" and that is a gift to my soul.  i receive her words and allow the power of her voice to move through me.  she is a gift.  her voice, her words, her rocking chairs.  powerful.  sacred.

sacred day two hundred fifty-five

a celebration of women.
9.12.2011

gathering women in the studio, surrounded by light.  encircled by the presence of those gathered & those whose lives impact our own.  we lit candles & tied colorful strings to a giant wire wreath base given by a kind, caring friend.  these lights represented a small number of women we celebrate.  the time together was a gift.  a wish that was granted.  a sacred time among sacred souls.

sacred day two hundred fifty-four

a feast.
9.11.2011

even a pear can be a feast.  today marks a day that is filled with memories, sadness, laughter, stories, feelings, hopes, and dreams.  today is filled with food, rest, and love.  today is a day that i stand in my kitchen and look out my window.  i listen to NPR. i mark this moment.  i stand in awe of the beauty of a pear.  i stand in sabbath rest.

sacred day two hundred fifty-one

garden observation.
9.8.2011

perched on the rosemary was this moth.  it's such an interesting creature with amazing textures & colors. i love exploring the garden to see what's new, what's changed, and what's creeping and crawling within it.  what a glorious find!

sacred day two hundred forty-eight

returning home.
9.5.2011

flying like a bird. watching my boy look out the window of calm after a previously bumpy flight.  enjoying the memories and sounds of the national folk festival still within.  happy to be traveling home.

sacred day two hundred forty-six

familiar sights.
9.3.2011

meeting printmakers from nashville was tremendous.  witnessing their creative hands, watching them add ink to the press as they were printing.  oh, my.  i met kindred spirits who shared their work, shared stories, and shared excitement.  what a joy to meet so many creative souls.

sacred day two hundred forty-two

sacred soup.
8.30.2011

making meals for the family is an act of love and gratitude.  i am so grateful for those who create these foods through the work of their hands.  i am so thankful for our home and life together.  creating a soup can be a sacred act. in the sight, smell, and tastes, i see the sacred.

sacred day two hundred eighteen

rest.
8.6.2011

home is a space where i kick up my feet.  home is a place where i dance.  home is cozy, welcoming, warm.  home is where the heart is.  home is where i find and create rest.  home is a sacred space and we are thankful for this space we reside in together.  sitting still.  knowing.  finding my centering place. dreaming of my birthday gathering to come and who will surround me with love.  delighting in words exchanged with my soul friend.  letting go. receiving.

sacred day one hundred ninety-one

the road home.
7.10.2011

wherever you call home, the return home is a space to encounter reflection, thought, and memory.  as we drove from the green spaces of Mississippi to the green spaces of Virginia, i was struck by the beauty of the space that surrounds us.  i was present to the feelings of returning home and the turnining from my childhood home in order to do so.  i was focused on what was before me on this path.  i'll make this trip again and again for my heart is in two places.

sacred day one hundred eighty-seven

porch swinging.
7.6.2011

swinging my boy to sleep at my brother's house was a sacred moment.  surrounded by the evening air, sounds of the cricket and cicada symphony, & the sound of the swing. my boy curled up in this blanket that was mine  33+ years ago.  delight.  memory.  love.  life.

sacred day one hundred eighty-six

beauty.
7.5.2011

exploring my brother's green thumb as i walk among his garden. he's so gifted with plants indoors and out, defying what some folks at the nursery say.  his presence brings life, calling plants to bloom.  he's such a good soul and i love, love, love admiring the work of his hands.  i also have come to believe that most of the neighborhood birds call his backyard home.  there's magic here.

sacred day one hundred sixty-seven

sacred space.
6.15.2011

watching & listening.  my brother in law plays the banjo at the annual church variety show.  it's a generous act, these who share their time and talents with the community.  we laugh, clap, tear up, and speak with each other.  it's a sacred space, a safe space in which to share.

sacred day one hundred fifty-eight

receiving.
6.6.2011

there's a goodness in being in the space of the studio as it is.  in this moment, i am receiving what i am called to do, in the chaos of the space as bags are dropped between this and that, as projects are in their piles and corners, as fabric is waiting patiently, as i lead and as i teach.  i am receiving all that i can in this moment, from blessings found in fun places.  i am receiving the sacred that is this space.

sacred day one hundred fifty-seven

frances' blessing.
6.5.2011

i love the statue, the humor, and the space it occupies.  this statue stands outside of a very sacred space: a porch on which many a sip and visit has occurred.  while my own visiting is limited to a few, you know it's a space that hospitality is offered.  your cup is never empty.  conversation flows.  it's a sacred place with a delightful host.  i thoroughly enjoyed spending part of our sabbath here.

sacred day one hundred forty-nine

morning light.
5.28.2011

i love the morning light that enters the kitchen through the window.  the light entered and touched this onion blossom just so.  what a magical light entering this space.  i am touched by awe.
