sacred day fifty-eight
sacred art.
2.26.2011
visiting the vmfa, i always find myself in this room glancing at this work. i'm drawn in. the colors, the detail. oh, my. there are so many images that i can get lost in and this is one.

sacred day forty-eight
simple beauty.
2.16.2011
finding beauty in the safe space of my studio. the space is a place where i can be fully present to myself, my art, and to others. i love being in the room, especially with objects of simple beauty and especially with light filling the space. seeing the light on the desk with my newly created sacred stick, i was filled with warmth.

sacred day thirty-nine
snapdragons.
2.8.2011
to behold fresh flowers is to glimpse the sacred. to see creation's creativity at work is a glorious thing. these snapdragons bring delight to my day, share love through their presence, and can be a source of giggles. i taught my son with a whispering voice to come near and behold. watch as you pinch the sides of the blossom. the snap dragon snaps. oh, pure delight to hear the giggles and to see the little fingers at play, making these dragons snap. it's a fun lesson to teach again and again. of course, i believe he's of the age to really remember now.

sacred day thirty-eight
space for me.
2.7.2011
in making space in my day for tea, i made space for me. making green tea, carving out the time and making breathing room in my day. i completed a sermon i've been working on for weeks. the writing flowed and i sipped the tea while editing. writing this sermon has brought my imagination into a sacred story anew. sipping tea, i embody this story as i invite my own sacred story to the table. i invite myself to tea, and i create space enough for me.

sacred day thirty
tinker toy play.
1.30.2011
the exuberance of creating something new isn't lost here. my son enjoys making his inventions and then showing us how they function in great detail. it's a creative act and one that connects him to his center. he creates, delights, and shares. what a wonderful work on this day of rest.

sacred day twenty-six
snow falling.
1.26.2011
oh, there's so much wonder to snow. the way it shows up and blankets the yard. watching briefly while sitting up for the first time in a few days, i was enchanted. mind you, most everything is a bit enchanting when the fog of illness lifts, even for a few moments. i wish the photo could have captured the large flakes falling quickly, but it captures colors in rainbow tones that are so, so lovely.

sacred day twenty-three
color.
1.23.2011
whether dancing through the day or nesting through a bit of the flu, color speaks to my soul. seeing the lovely shade of my lamp delights my senses. perhaps i am a bit trippy from my medicines and fever, perhaps just honest. i love color and the delight it brings.

sacred day nineteen
by the light of the moon.
1.19.2011
i could not capture the moon by image in it's clear shape. the lens could only see the radiance of the light shining from the moon. the darkness is a remarkable space, a time of day in which i've come to think of the day's beginning. we begin and end with rest. under the light of this moon seeds are waiting, bulbs are growing, life is moving through it's cycle. i glimpse divine light in this sacred circle.

sacred day thirteen
my sweet boy.
1.13.2011
we've ended the day well with creative play. he stops and rests. i love seeing him content. his body still from so much play. it's a sacred space, this stillness. where the dusk of the day brings us into a inner stilling that prepares us for the task of sleep before us.

sacred day twelve
ice.
1.12.2011
when i see icicles, i see my childhood. growing up in mississippi, we didn't see much snow, but we would see icicles hanging from the roof, cars, and sometimes trees. ice represents winter in a more solid way than snow. snow brings a sense of wonder. so this ice, lined along bricks at our church, was spotted by my sweet boy. beholding his wonder and tasting is a sacred act in itself. beholding his act and witnessing my own in memory is sacred. i am moved by icicles in a new way this moment.

sacred day ten
holy clouds.
1.10.2011
there's something very lovely about these clouds. the striking colors and their shapes across the sky. in returning home after an afternoon outing with my boy, i was sure to look up and witness this sacred space above. a holy moment.
Saturday, January 8, 2011
sacred day seven
wonder snow.
1.7.2011
stepping from our respective spaces of worship and play, using the bowl that delivered communion bread, my sweet boy sat inside the bowl and made his way down hills of snow. this freshly fallen snow brought giggles and joy, peace and wonder. as i watched this creative, delightful vessel of the sacred sit in a vessel that carried the sacred, my heart found awareness and wonder. worship as play.

sacred day four
everyday magic.
1.4.2011
looking up toward the sun, the clouds held a magical display of light. magical, sacred, every day. the clouds are present giving us a little magic as children where their shapes hold truth as we "see" what others sometimes can and sometimes cannot. the truth of clouds carries with us as we move in our days, speaking to us of the truth as we "see" our mood in the clouds of our day. the sky is sacred space. clouds are a sacred vessel of revelation.
